How can I parent with my ex?

If you are getting divorced or maybe are already divorced in California and have children with your former spouse, you will very quickly learn that you can never be fully divorced from that person. Your children will require you to work with an ex-partner for their sake. How in the world can you do this effectively knowing that the person likely drove you crazy while you were married?

Coparently explains that the concept of coparenting requires a level of consciousness be maintained by parents. First and foremost it is the children's best interests that matter. Any gripes that the parents have amongs themselves may need to be put aside or even dropped altogether. Conflict can be damaging to kids and when a divorce has already happened, the last thing the kids need is to see the parents keep fighting.

Making a point to greet each other positively in front of the kids is one small thing you can do to avoid this from happening. Also, keep all important discussions out of the earshot of children. Use email or coparenting apps to track money or communicate about things to avoid getting into conversations not appropriate for the kids when they are present. Make a point to say nice things about your former spouse to your kids, such as complimenting the other parent on a talent.

This information is not intended to provide legal advice but is instead meant to give divorcing California parents practical tips they can use to more positively work with a former spouse in raising their children together.
